The Blue Flag program is an international certification system that recognizes beaches, marinas, and sustainable boating tourism operators for their adherence to strict environmental and sustainability criteria. This prestigious recognition is a testament to the Ligurian region’s unwavering dedication to maintaining the highest standards of water quality, environmental management, and safety for its residents and visitors alike.
The Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) has awarded blue flags to 226 municipalities and 458 beaches in Italy for 2023.
Liguria tops the regional table with 34 blue flags followed far away by Apulia with 22, then Tuscany, Campania and Calabria with 19, Marche with 18 then Sardinia with 15 and Abruzzo with 14, Sicily reaches 11 flags, Lazio 10, Veneto and Emilia Romagna 9, Basilicata 5, Friuli Venezia Giulia and Molise with 2. Trentino Alto Adige leads with 10 flags for lakes followed by Lombardy with 3 and Piedmont with 2 flags.
In West Liguria these are the 2023 Blue Flags: Bordighera, Sanremo, Taggia, Riva Ligure, Santo Stefano al Mare, San Lorenzo al Mare, Imperia, Diano Marina, Ceriale, Borghetto Santo Spirito, Loano, Pietra Ligure, Finale Ligure, Noli, Spotorno, Bergeggi, Savona, Albissola Marina, Albisola Superiore, Celle Ligure, Varazze, Laigueglia.
