2019 Blue Flag beaches: Liguria is AGAIN the most pristine

Region Liguria has again the highest number of Blue Flag beaches in Italy.

Italy has 385 top beaches, 17 more than last year, in 183 municipalities. The figures emerge from the 2019 Blue Flag table, which certifies the services and environmental friendliness of coastal and lakeside resorts, as well as the cleanliness of the water.

Blue Flags are international distinctions, created in 1987, with patronage and support from UNEP, the United Nations Environment Programme, and the World Tourism Organisation, which aims to promote a sustainable development at beaches and marinas through strict criteria such as water quality, environmental management, safety and services provided close to or within the beach area. To the Blue Flag Programme participate beaches and marinas in 41 countries of all the world.

Liguria again tops the regional table with 30 blue flags (27 last year), with 3 new entries: Sanremo, Imperia and Riva Ligure.

It is followed from far away by Tuscany with 19, Campania with 18, the central Marche region with 15, then Sardinia with 14, Apulia with 13, Calabria 11, Abruzzo with 10, Veneto 9, Lazio with 8, Emilia Romagna and Sicily reach 7 flags, Basilicata 5, Friuli Venezia Giulia 2 and Molise with 1. But Blue Flags are also for the lakes and Trentino Alto Adige leads with 10 flags, followed by Piedmont with 3 and then Lombardy with 1 flag.

In West Liguria these are the 2019 Blue Flags: Bordighera, Sanremo, Arma di Taggia, Riva Ligure, Santo Stefano al Mare, San Lorenzo al Mare, Imperia, Ceriale, Borghetto Santo Spirito, Loano, Pietra Ligure, Finale Ligure, Noli, Spotorno, Bergeggi, Savona, Albissola Marina, Albisola Superiore, Celle Ligure and Varazze.

West Liguria has “officially” the best climate in Italy.

The “Indice del clima” is a report by Il Sole 24 ore based on 10 different weather parameters (days of sun, days of rain, days of strong wind, humidity, etc) calculated over the period 2008 – 2018.

The Province of Imperia is ranked #1, followed by Catania and then Pescara.

Sanremo Music Festival 2019

From February 5th to 9th, Italy stops to watch Sanremo Festival, one of the main shows of Italy and worldwide.

It is exciting to see it live, enveloped in the festive climate that livens up the entire city. Among the audience of Ariston theatre, walking around the shopping streets, on the boardwalk, at the Casino, parks or other areas that welcome the stars, singers, guests and tourists: the magical festive climate is everywhere.

On the stage, with Claudio Baglioni, Virginia Raffaele and Claudio Bisio as hosts, there will be 24 top Italian singers, like Il Volo, Nek, Patty Prato and many others. Special guests will be the worldwide stars Andrea Bocelli, Giorgia and Elisa. International surprise stars will be announced later on.

The final show on the 9th of February will see the election of the winner, who will have the right to represent Italy at the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest in Israel.

The Festival will be on air and web streaming on Rai 1, Rai HD, Eurovision and Radio 1, Radio 2.

New direct flight from NYC to Nice

Reaching the Italian Riviera from the US is now even more easier.

La Compagnie

The Boutique airline “La Compagnie”, 4 years after launching exclusively business-class flights between New York and Paris, has announced the launch of a new seasonal route between New York and Nice with the first direct flight scheduled for Sunday, May 5, 2019.

The new route will operate five times weekly, Wednesday through Sunday, between the months of May and October. Flights out of Newark International Airport (EWR) will depart at 11:30PM, arriving to Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport (NCE) at 1:50PM the following afternoon. Flights departing Nice will be offered at 6:15PM with a same-day arrival in New York at 10:00PM.

This new seasonal service is added to the year-round nonstop service between Nice Côte d’Azur Airport and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport thanks to the joint venture partners Delta Air lines and Air France.
